Our meeting started on Friday at 16.00. After the „Welcome“ we – i. e. 33 members and friends of ITC members – started to „Stadtbrauerei Arnstadt“. A nice and funny man in traditional dress, the „Arnstadt Bierrufer“, told us a lot about the tradition of brewing in Arnstadt.
Starting in 1404 up to 130 small breweries were busy in Thuringia´s oldest town, and the „Bierrufer“ (beer barker) told the people where they could get fresh beer that day. So we also tested both the beer and the traditional „Thuringian Sausage“ – delicious!
On Saturday morning our bus started for Wartburg Castle which is situated on top of a hill near Eisenach. This place is famous for St. Elisabeth who took care of the poor and sick. And this is the place where Martin Luther translated the New Testament into German, creating a unified German language. Wartburg Castle is one of the most important places of German history.
Lunchtime was in a large furniture store near the highway to Weimar. Unfortunately, the weather was getting worse. So our city tour in Weimar was a nearly „underwater“ event which ended in one of the traditional cafe´s of Weimar with good Thuringian cake.
In the late afternoon we went on to Jena to visit the world´s first planetarium, the Zeiss planetarium. „Queen Heaven – The Original“ – this was the name of the laser show, an interesting reminescence of the music we loved when we were young! – This day ended with a midnight dinner in our Arnstadt hotel.
On sunday morning we had our ITC meeting.
After the meeting we went by train to Erfurt, Thuringia´s capital. During the guided tour – our guide was an Italian lady from Genua – we learned a lot about the history of Erfurt as a historic trading center for woad, a plant that was used for preparing a special blue dye.
After lunch in a traditional Thuringian restaurant we went back home – in all directions!
We had very nice, interesting days that brought together many cat lovers from Austria, Italy and Germany.
We are an independent community of breeders and lovers of Thai cat at international level.
